Sunday Musings

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year.  I love the leaf colors, the chilly breeze, harvest candles, and cozy fire lit evenings.  I love sipping coffee or hot chocolate (or wine!) with the best company a girl could ask for.  I love the soft leather of my couch in combination with my fuzzy socks, warm blanket and a good read.  Days like today make me thankful I am still childless and can savor the perfect enjoyment of delicious laziness!

I am also thankful that this October is not ridden with moving malaise like last year and we were actually able to enjoy one of my favorite months decorating, working on Halloween crafts and hosting a party for O's work friends. We had a great time, stayed up too late and ate far too many Pinterest appetizers last night (all very yummy!)  We went as the usual - vampires.

All of O's spooky decor was a hit and he enjoyed giving a tour of the graveyard complete with fog machine!

Pinterest also yielded some pretty good yard haunts including the "Dead & Breakfast" sign, chicken wire graveyard ghosts and glowing water balloon orbs. The tulle wreath was big big hit as well.  O says I should make these for my second job but I tell him he's crazy.

We even tested out the scary sounding candy corn martini - which has a pretty wicked kick but was absolutely delicious.  And it really is what it says - candy corn infused vodka, which yields a festive orange tint and and a sinful sugary spiral into martini bliss!  My advice - you only need one.

In general, my spirits (no pun intended) have also been lifted a bit now that we for sure have rental income again and our impending anniversary cruise is right around the corner!  I am a big fan of SmartyPig, which is a really smart, simple way to save money.  For the cruise, we designated an amount we wanted to spend, use for boarding the dog, parking, etc.  You just tell SmartyPig how much you want to save and when you want to have the money by and it calculates the amount to withdraw from your account each paycheck.  Voila - you don't even have to think about it!

I also use it for the Christmas budget and other things that are good to plan for in advance.  It's extremely rewarding to get to the "due date" and have a ton of money dumped back into your account - all for spending because you saved it! For a moment I was getting really depressed that the Cruise cash might become Second Mortgage cash, but we escaped that fate thank goodness.

In other random news, since the cruise ship likely is not an approved polling location, I voted. And you should too.  Happy Sunday to all!
